Interest rates in Canada have been gradually increasing throughout 2026. While nothing like the sharp increases we experienced in 2022, at DEROTTO we expect this upward trend to continue through 2027.

Although it’s not news we enjoy sharing, interest rates are an important part of running a business. Understanding potential changes and preparing accordingly can make a big difference.

The businesses that adapt to changing conditions are often the ones best positioned for success. As Brad Pitt famously says in Moneyball, “Adapt or die.”

You don't need to be a baseball coach to appreciate the message. When the future brings uncertainty, staying informed, planning ahead and adapting your approach can make all the difference.

The Foundation of Every Successful Transaction: TRUST

One of the biggest reasons DEROTTO has been fortunate to serve businesses for more than 20 years is TRUST.

As an equipment financing broker, we bring three parties together in every transaction:

  • The Buyer: The business purchasing the equipment.

  • The Seller: The business selling the equipment.

  • The Lender: The financial institution providing the financing.

Each party needs confidence in the others for a transaction to move forward successfully.

What does trust look like for each party?

1. The Buyer

The buyer trusts DEROTTO with sensitive financial and credit information. They also need confidence that we are finding the most competitive financing structure available based on their financial profile and the equipment being purchased.

2. The Seller

The seller needs confidence that payment will be made in full and in a timely manner.

3. The Lender

The lender needs to trust the information provided by both the buyer and seller. They also need confidence that the buyer can meet their payment obligations.

With increased fraudulent activity in the marketplace, lenders are taking additional precautions to protect everyone involved.

Most transactions require verification of three key areas:

  • Buyer verification: Identification and beneficial ownership documents to confirm who owns and controls the business.

  • Equipment ownership: Proof that the seller legally owns the equipment and has the right to sell it. For refinancing transactions, the borrower must demonstrate ownership of the equipment.

  • Lien and security searches: Lenders check for existing liens, encumbrances and security interests registered against the equipment or seller. This can sometimes require additional documentation or waivers from secured parties.

While these requirements can occasionally create delays or frustration, they are important safeguards that protect the buyer, seller and lender.

Trust also becomes especially important when financing involves deposits or early payments before equipment is delivered. In these situations, the lender and buyer are relying on the seller to deliver or manufacture the equipment as agreed and in proper working condition.

Where Does DEROTTO Fit In?

As the financing broker, DEROTTO is the quarterback of the transaction. We bring everyone together and coordinate the process from start to finish.

The buyer wants their equipment as soon as possible. The seller wants to receive payment promptly. The lender needs complete and accurate documentation before releasing funds.

Making all three happen requires clear communication, organization and, above all, TRUST.
