WHY CHANGE IS A GOOD THING!
The topic we would like to explore this month is the importance of adapting to change. Everyone likes the status quo because it is easy and comfortable. We get lazy and complacent when things are easy, and when things get easy we often take our eyes off the ball. DEROTTO was guilty of this in 2007-2008. At the time, business was going great and then all of sudden it wasn’t. It’s human nature to get complacent. Most people don’t change unless the environment they live in changes – it’s just the way things are. It was the financial crisis of 2007-2008 that forced DEROTTO to redefine its business model, and because of it we are flourishing today. Since 2008, DEROTTO is committed to never letting such a situation happen again.
Remember the movie Stranger than Fiction? The main character Harold Crick does the same things, in the same order, at exactly the same time for years. He leads a completely dull, extremely predictable, and uninteresting life. That is how life would be without changes.
Albert Einstein once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
Change is important for any organization because, without change, businesses would lose their competitive edge. Simply asking the question "Why?" can lead to new ideas and new innovations that can directly impact the bottom line. For instance, one of the partners of DEROTTO, about a year ago, came up with an idea that has added at least 10% to the bottom line for DEROTTO.
Listed below is food for thought highlighting just how important change is in business and life and why you should embrace it.
Without change, things stay the same and ultimately will stagnate and die.
Most people are afraid of change because it forces them outside their comfort zone – Go there, it’s not that uncomfortable.
Without change, there is no adventure in life.
It takes much more energy and effort to resist change than it does to accept it.
Since most will resist change, successful people will use this fact to their advantage.
You grow and learn new things every time something changes.
When you complain about change, the energy you’re wasting will turn you into a curmudgeon – I had no idea what this word meant until I looked it up, but it is perfect why we should embrace change.
Change is opportunity.
The status quo is boring and gets you nowhere.
Change is exciting and forces you to move.
Change can be scary and uncomfortable only when you look at it that way.
People resist change because it brings feelings of fear of the unknown. Fear of change is a feeling you can change.
Change is a harbinger of possibilities.
Everything must change.
When we change we adapt and move forward, when we don’t we move backward.
Change is crucial to be successful long-term in life and business. There’s a reason people walk, “the path of least resistance”. But at DEROTTO, we are devoted to forging our path and implore you to do the same. Sure, you start pricked by a few thorns and thistles the moment you leap off of the trail - but you grow calluses, get stronger, and those slivers work themselves out. And what is left? A purposeful life, the satisfaction that it’s your creation, and a new adventure fueling the true entrepreneur in you.
So, what are you waiting for? Leap off the path and forge your own
